This is what he had to say to Sky Sports News

"There's a number of clubs who have shown an interest and my agents have been talking to them.

"But I think we're down to the shortlist and I just want to get amongst it now and join a team and focus on the season ahead.

"There's an offer [from West Ham]. And it's an offer that's on the shortlist, it's being considered. I'm very loyal to West Ham.

"We are talking to two clubs outside of England. That's been the hardest one because it's a language barrier, it's a change of what I've been used to for 14 years.

"So that decision takes a lot of courage to do but that's why I've taken my time because it's not something I take lightly."

If he is so f*cking loyal why is he still sitting on the fence. Loyal my ass, he just after the biggest pay packet he can get like all footballers today!

If he is so loyal to the club, he won't consider for a better offer. What a lame excuse.. He's more loyal to $!

the next pay cheque he will be signing could be his last one.

even you and i would want to make it a big one isnt it ?

he is happy to be signing the same contract he was on the past years, however the club is lowering down his wages instead of paying him the same amount.

neil is a good pro, a brilliant captain too. he did well for us last season albeit the season before he was crap!

if he choosed us, i will be more than happy to have him back, although faubert is settling in good after returning from real.

if neill decides against us and choose turkey instead, good luck !

No!  He is NO brilliant captain.  He doesn't show by example and he doesn't lead.  Look at all the mistakes he made the previous season.  And do you see him encouraging his fellow defenders?  I think not.  Even Upson and Collins show more enthusiasm.  When ever have we seen him lead us Hammers on a fightback?  Once we fall behind, it's bye bye.
He turned down our offer.  Sure it was lower.  He's older and slower. What does he expect?  Earn the same as Cashley Cole?

tony,

he is a brilliant captain. although the season before he was crap and as you mentioned mate alot of mistakes, last season he was good and at times brilliant.

he doesnt lead? well zola definitely doesnt agree with that, because if that is the case he wont have bothered to even offer neil another contract. and i am sure the young players like noble, collison and tomkins looked up to him.

upson is class, there is no chance neil could match that at this age. collins is probably more error prone than lucas. there are so many times ive seen games where collins just switched off.

neill is experienced, he might be slow. he might not be as vocal as keano at united or even rio, terry. but i would rather have neil playing ahead of faubert or spector.

let us see whether our new captain, upson would lead us hammers on a fightback this season. this time next year, it might be upson who will be pulling a lucas neill. what are we going to say about that then ?

i have doubts about the club fighting for the euro spot, not with the current squad. it is just not strong enough.

Having said that, I am rather positive that we wont get relegated by the end of this season unless the FA/PL go against us and dock us 10-20 points.

they are a number of clubs out there in a worse situation - pompey, hull, burnley (althought they signed fletcher who i happen to rate highly!) , wigan , birmingham , stoke.

have a little optimism guys.

COYI !

Hi Rizal, dont waste time arguing with Tony.  Once he has decided that he doesnt like certain players, eg. Neil, Cole, no amount of persuasion or talk will change his mind.
He doesnt realize that by saying Neil is a poor captain and bad player, he is actually saying that Zola doesnt know what he's doing.  And by saying Cole is no good, he's also actually saying Capello is dumb to pick him for England.
And you better not criticize his favourite players eg. Collins and Gabbs.  To him these players can do no wrong.
I do admit that Collins catches the eye when he throws himself into a tackle but Tony does not see the mistakes Collins makes when he goes in too strongly trying to win the ball and land up fouling the opponent or gets out of position.  But come to think of it, since Tony hardly watch any game and land up falling asleep whenever we are on tv, I wonder how he can still pass judgement on the players.
I do hope Neil signs for another year but if he doesn't I hope the club will bring in a new right back.
As for Upson, yes, you are right.  He's already turned down the offer of an extension to his contract and he can't wait for the current contract to expire so that he can move on.  It's a pity that Man City has lost interest in him otherwise we can get some good money for him now.

haha tommy you make tony look bad.

its all about passion, and you can tell that tony is west ham mad!

loyalty is important, but theres no way we going to get that from players we bought in (cole, upson, neill, green, whoever). they will definitely jump ship if any of the clubs above us place an offer.

i would be proper pissed off if noble or collison did what neil did as they are proper west ham born and bred (although collison initially came from shitty watford). but couldn't care less if other players do it as its how football is like nowadays anyway!
