Zola made 3 changes to the side that played last weekend.  Faubert is back in for Specs, Tomkins benched in favour of Da Costa and of course Parker replaced the suspended Kovac, but more enforced changes after 8 mins when Ilunga went off for a hamstring to be replaced by Specs and again on 30th mins, when Cole also suffered a hammy to give young Zines a chance.
Our young striker duly won a pen when he was brought down in the box by Beye in first half stoppage time and Nobes duly converted.
Half time 1-0

But 5 mins from the re-start, Da Costa gave away a pen when he was adjudged to have fouled Collins while jumping high to clear the ball.  Well saved by Greeno who enhanced his England No.1 status in front of the watching Capello but a few mins later Greeno could not stop Ashley Young from evening things out with a brilliant equalizer. 1-1

From then on ding-dong battle with Hines particularly dangerous until 85th min when Villa went down to 10 men with Beye getting an early bath after a 2nd yellow for bringing down Specs.

Against 10 men??  Are we going to foul up yet again?? But Villa is tiring fast.

Final change for us in the 89th min when Zola brought on Jimenez to replace the tiring Franco. Hines is having the game of his life with several attempts at goal and was got his rewards deep into added time when he converted from Parker's cross to earn us 3 points and our first home win of the season.
FT 2-1

Man of the Match - Parker.
Cole hammy may means he's out for as long as 2 months, but let's hope that Hines will prove an able replacement.
We are now out of the bottom 3 - bring on the Toffees !!

Here's Hines winning goal.

So we did.  Dare we hope for better things?  It's so important to get 3 points nowadays.  If we had hung on to our 2-1 lead against 10-men Sunderland last week, we'd be up in 12th place.
Kovac is another Lucas Neill, even worse.  He runs around like a headless chicken.  Why on earth did we buy him?

Tony, there you go again, condemning Lucas Neil.  See how poor our defence is after we lost Neil (and also Collins)?
Zola has to drop Tomkins last night and played Da Costa and we still don't have a right back.  Neither Faubert or Specs are good enough.
Neil may be playing against us this weekend if he is picked by David Moyes.

I watched the highlights this morning. Da Costa played well and looks to have a fair bit of flair about him - how high did he jump when he gave the penalty away! Fantastic saves from Green - penalty and deflected shot. Parker and Collison massive in midfield, with Behrami a bit muted. Noble didn't do much apart from score a good penalty. Zavon Hines is much like Bellamy and what we sorely need - someone with the balls to run at defences and run them ragged. He won the penalty as well as scored. Franco could be a great acquisition, he holds the ball up weel and Hines can feed well off him. He also has a lot of confidence which will rub off on the yougsters - no bad thing!

As for Neill. Yes he was solid, but he made mistakes time and time again and was slower on the turn than me! I did like the way he led from the front as Captain, but in the end it was obvious he was another mercenary b****** just holding out for the cash. Whilst you can call me old-fashioned, I don't want players like that at my club. I want players willing to run through a brick wall for the claret and blue, who care for the club and us the supporters, who are aware of our special traditions and what they mean. We are not like any other club! We are West Ham!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I still don't consider this is the turning point for West ham that Zola claimed it is. Look at the league table, we are sharing points with Wolves and Blackburn with 10 points each. While Hull (8 pts) and Portsmouth (7 pts), we could easily been condemn into the bottom 3 again if we screwed up in the next fixtures. I wouldn't be so happy with the win against Villa as we paid a big price to win it with the lost of Illunga and King Cole. I hope Zola and Clark will well prepare for the worst!

I hope they will finally find a starting 11 which they
can field every week. If they make changes every game
the team will not be able to find together.
